The interventions of the international organization FIAN focus in particular on initiatives that mitigate the impacts of crises on access to, conservation of, and circulation of farmers’ seeds.
As preparations for the sixth edition of the Central African Farmers’ Seed Fair (FOSPAC6), scheduled for February 27 to March 1, 2026 in Esse (Centre Region, Cameroon), under the theme « Community-Based Farmers’ Seed Boxes, » intensify, the Network of Actors for Sustainable Development (RADD) will count on a key partner: FIAN. The international human rights organization distinguishes itself through its multifaceted support for the resilience of farmers’ seed systems facing diverse crisis. FIAN Germany in particular will support RADD in the organisation of a workshop to present the synthesis of the South-South exchange (West Africa-Colombia) and the sharing of experiences on the situation of peasant seed systems in times of crisis in Central Africa. The workshop, to be held on February 27, 2026, focuses on a specific theme : understanding how stakeholders operate, envision, and define strategies around peasant seed systems in Central Africa during times of crisis, whether war, forced displacement of populations, floods, climate change, etc.
Inspired by the lessons learned from the West African Peasant Seed Fair (FOASP) and the experiences carried out in Togo within the framework of the South-South exchange, the session will allow for the sharing of the realities experienced by peasant organizations, the promotion of resistance and adaptation initiatives (community seed boxes, exchange networks, agro-ecological practices) and the collective analysis of the impacts of crises on access, conservation and circulation of peasant seeds.
Multi-stakeholder discussions will primarily contribute to fostering reflection on the principles of human rights and food sovereignty, while formulating strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening the protection, recognition, and consolidation of peasant seed systems facing crisis situations. This will be done against the backdrop of the strategies that communities must implement to cope with these crises and maintain their commitment to promoting peasant seed systems.
